Frequently Asked Questions
Everything homeowners ask about Phantom retractable screens — products, cost, mesh, smart-home control, installation, warranty, and care.
General
What does Phantom Retractable Screens do?
We design, sell, and professionally install custom Phantom-brand retractable screens for doors, windows, patios, and large openings throughout Southern California. Every project includes an in-home consultation, precise measurement, and factory-trained installation.
Do retractable screens block the view?
No. The mesh rolls into a slim housing when not in use, so the opening is completely clear. Preserving the view is the main advantage over fixed screens.
What areas do you serve?
We serve Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura counties — including the Santa Clarita Valley, San Fernando Valley, the Westside and coast, the San Gabriel Valley, the Antelope Valley, and parts of Orange County. We’re based in Canyon Country, CA.
Products
What types of retractable screens do you offer?
Motorized screens for patios and large openings; Sure Fit motorized screens with spring-tension technology; door screens for single, French, and sliding doors; oversized door screens for openings up to ~15 ft wide and ~12 ft high; and window screens for virtually every window type.
What is the largest opening you can screen?
Our oversized door screens cover openings up to about 15 feet wide and 12 feet high — among the tallest retractable screens available — and motorized systems handle wide patios and multi-panel doors.
Are the screens custom-made?
Yes. Every screen is measured and built to the specific opening, then installed by factory-trained technicians for a clean, precise fit.
Cost & Quotes
How much do retractable screens cost?
As a general industry guide, manual door and window screens typically run about $500–$1,500 per opening, and motorized patio screens generally run about $2,500–$5,000+ per opening. These are orientation ranges, not a quote — we provide exact pricing after a free in-home measurement.
Do you offer free quotes?
Yes — a free, no-obligation in-home consultation and quote, with professional measurement included.
Mesh, Motorization & Smart Home
What mesh options are available?
Insect mesh for maximum airflow and view, solar mesh for heat/UV/glare control on sunny openings, and privacy mesh to reduce visibility from outside. We help you choose per opening, and a dual-screen setup can combine mesh types on one large opening.
Do motorized screens work with smart-home systems?
Yes. Motorized screens integrate with Somfy automation and platforms including Alexa, Google Home, Control4, Crestron, and Lutron, and can be controlled by remote, switch, app, or voice. Optional wind and sun sensors automate large screens.
Installation, Warranty & Care
Who installs the screens?
Factory-trained technicians measure and install every screen so it glides and seals correctly. Most installations are clean and reversible, with low-profile, color-matched housings.
What warranty comes with the screens?
A limited lifetime warranty on components, a 7-year warranty on motors, and a 24-month labor warranty — among the strongest coverage in the industry.
How do I maintain a retractable screen?
Wipe the mesh a few times a year with mild soap and water, keep the bottom track clear of debris, and operate the screen gently. Because the mesh stores in its housing, it stays protected from sun and weather between uses.
